FlaBasquete picks up momentum in the final quarter and closes 2021 with a victory over Cerrado away from home
Faverani and Olivinha were the biggest highlights for the red-blacks; the team returns to the court on January 9th, at Maracanãzinho
By Communication - Flamengo - inThe Pride of the Nation closed 2021 with a victory. After three even quarters, the team took off in the final period and defeated Cerrado 91-75 at the ASCEB gymnasium in Brasília, in the 11th round of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB).
Captain Olivinha led the way with 21 points. Faverani had a great game, reaching 20, followed by Yago with 14. Rafael Mineiro achieved a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds.
The game
Inspired, Vitor Faverani was the red-and-black team's standout performer in the first ten minutes of the match: the center dominated the game, scoring 14 points—three from outside the perimeter—and excelling defensively. It was a back-and-forth quarter, with high scoring from both teams, and Mengão went into the second quarter leading 27-24. In this quarter, it was Olivinha's turn to dictate the pace of the match. Electric on offense, the captain was instrumental in keeping the Red-and-Black team ahead, reaching 11 points—15 in total.
Facing the physical play of the Cerrado team, Flamengo started the third quarter with an eight-point lead (39-47), but the fans saw another very even period. The Brasília team ended up winning the period, but the Rubro-Negro maintained its lead (57-64). In the fourth quarter, Luke Martinez scored five points in the opening minutes, followed by a three-pointer from Rafael Mineiro and a beautiful dunk from Túlio da Silva. This sequence came at a crucial moment in the match: the team didn't let their opponent enjoy the game, opening a 14-point lead (60-74) and extending the lead to the final score.
Next appointment
Mengão's first game of 2022 will be on January 9th at 18 pm against Pinheiros, in another round of the NBB. The match will be held at the Maracanãzinho gymnasium, the home of FlaBasquete.
