After a five-game winning streak in the New Basketball Brazil (NBB), Flamengo returns home after defeating Franca, Pinheiros and Palmeiras in São Paulo. This Monday (23.02), at 20 pm, Rubro-Negro hosts Macaé, at Tijuca Tênis Clube, for the 26th round of the championship.
While Orgulho da Nação (Nation's Pride) sits third in the standings and is fighting to qualify for the playoffs among the top four, Macaé is in 12th place. In the NBB first-round clash between the clubs, a thrilling match saw Macaé prevail with a last-second basket. However, according to point guard Marquinhos, this loss further motivates the red-and-black team to secure a positive result in the home match. "We lost the last game, on the last ball, and they've been playing hard against all teams. Whoever plays a good defense and takes the opponent out of their comfort zone has a good chance of winning the match. A positive result will greatly help us in the standings," said the athlete.
This is Pride of the Nation's last match before the team heads to Mar del Plata, where they'll play in the second phase of the Liga das Américas (LDA). If they qualify, the Red-Blacks will advance to the Final Four, or semifinals, where they'll be seeking their second continental championship. The match against Macaé takes on even greater importance, as it also serves as preparation for the LDA. "If we win, it will motivate us to be even better prepared for the Liga das Américas. We're on a very good winning streak and we're looking for another one this Monday," concluded Marquinhos.
