Flamengo, the biggest champion of the New Basketball Brazil, with six titles, took the silver medal in the last edition, losing to Franca in a best-of-five series (1-3). Under Gustavo De Conti, they have already won two championship titles in four seasons at the helm of the Pride of the Nation. NBB 13, Gustavinho's second at FlaBasquete, was not completed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the last training session in Rio and before boarding for Belo Horizonte, this Friday (14), the coach spoke about the preparation of the squad, which played matches against Brasília, Cerrado and São José.

"Friendlies help a lot; they're part of the preparation, as are training sessions, conversations, videos... friendlies are very important for this reason. They're an evaluation, a test, habits that players acquire, and a game routine," said De Conti.

Gustavinho also analyzed his first opponent in the NBB.

"The Minas team is highly qualified. They've changed some pieces from last season, but I believe they've become even stronger. They're a team with players of great offensive and defensive quality, very well managed by Léo Costa, and they always demonstrate excellent organization, excellent order, and excellent tactical skills. They're undoubtedly one of the favorites to win titles, both in the BCLA and the NBB, Super 8, and all the tournaments," he commented.

Gustavo De Conti will have the entire team at his disposal: point guards Penka Aguirre, Jose Vildoza and Matheus Leoni, shooting guard Loku Cuello, forwards Gui Deodato and Rafael Rachel, power forwards Olivinha, Rafael Mineiro, Gabriel Jaú and Emanuel Fernandes, and centers Rafael Hettsheimeir and Vitor Faverani.

Debut of the Cloak

The revamped roster isn't the only new addition to the Pride of the Nation. On Saturday, FlaBasquete will take to the court wearing the season's new jersey, featuring a two-star crest on the chest, commemorating the team's second World Cup title won in February in Egypt. The jersey was unveiled in early October during the Brasileirão match between Flamengo and Internacional at the Maracanã stadium. The soccer players warmed up in their basketball uniforms and posed for photos with their teammates.
