FlaBasquete begins its quest for the South American League title
Rubro-negros go to Uruguay to compete in the first phase of the tournament

The South American Basketball League is about to begin. This Monday (22), Flamengo begins its journey in search of another title in the season. In the coming days, the red-blacks will go to the Palácio Peñarol Montevideo gym to face Libertad de Sunchales (Argentina), the home team of Goes and Welcome, also from Uruguay, today, Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
Flamengo has had three positive results in three matches in the Novo Basquete Brasil 11. Undefeated so far, the red-black team beat Basquete Cearense and Brasília away from home, in addition to beating Joinville at Arena Carioca 1.

Dispute format
The clubs were divided into four groups. In groups A, C, and D, the top two and the third-best teams from these groups advance to the semifinals. In Group B, only the champion qualifies.
In the semifinals, the eight teams are divided into two groups. The winners of each group advance to the final, which will be played as a best-of-three match.
The South American League
This will be Flamengo's tenth appearance in the South American League. In 2009, the "Mais Querido" (the most beloved team) painted the continent red and black for the first time when, with a spectacular performance by captain Marcelinho Machado, they defeated Quimsa in Argentina in front of a packed stadium, 98-96. Scorer of 41 points in the final, the number 4, along with coach Paulo Chupeta, led FlaBasquete to the undefeated title.
It is worth remembering that Mais Querido is a two-time champion of the South American Championship, organized before the current League, winning titles in 1953 and 1961.

Coach Gustavo de Conti analyzed the competition and the opportunity to play against teams different from the Brazilian one. According to the coach, Flamengo will encounter styles that emphasize strength and decisiveness in the paint. The week of training focused on these styles, but without changing the FlaBasquete style of play.
"We need to train mostly on Flamengo's characteristics, but, without a doubt, it's important to train focusing on what they do. They play differently than Brazilian teams. It's a more static game, more of a five-on-five game, with a lot of physical strength in defense and rebounding. We've been practicing this all week to get there and adapt as quickly as possible to what they propose," explained the coach, who will be tasked with organizing the team for three games in three days. According to him, the formula is to think one-on-one, as it always has.
"We're preparing to face Libertad, which is the first and most important game now. That's the next game. As for the others, we'll wait and see how things go day to day. We'll analyze the videos, we'll talk, and we'll study the teams," he concluded.
