On Thursday morning (28) some FlaBasquete athletes visited the Rio de Janeiro Ophthalmology Institute (IORJ) to undergo eye exams. Arthur Pecos, David Cubillan, Henrique Pilar, JP Batista and MJ Rhett were the beneficiaries this time. The rest of the red-black squad had already undergone exams at the Institute and kicked off this partnership with the CUIDAR project.
The project, which is a pioneer in Brazilian sport, between Flamengo and IORJ - Rio de Janeiro Institute of Ophthalmology, aims to develop high performance and care for the eye health of athletes in the youth and professional categories in Olympic sports.
The sports involved include basketball, gymnastics, swimming, synchronized swimming, water polo, judo, volleyball, and rowing. The ophthalmological exams performed include tonometry (eye pressure), visual acuity, refraction, corneal topography, retinal mapping, and visual field. Initially, 640 athletes will be covered, but the plan is to extend the benefit to the club's other athletes.
The basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo receive funding from their sponsors – Estácio, AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, and EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR) and the State Incentive Law/Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Sports, Recreation, and Youth (Seelje), in addition to support from the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources generated by the Pelé Law. The Anjo da Guarda Rubro-Negro Project, a personal tax transfer, benefits all Olympic sports of the Most Beloved.
