FlaBasquete meets fans again in Rio in another NBB challenge
Pride of the Nation returns to play at Arena Carioca 1, the site of 14 victories last season

Two away games, two wins to kick off the 2018-2019 NBB season. Now it's finally time to play in front of the Nation, in Rio de Janeiro. This Wednesday, the team led by Gustavo De Conti will face Joinville Basquete in the third round of the competition, in the first game at Arena Carioca 1, in Barra da Tijuca. Tip-off is at 20:30 PM and tickets are on sale online and also at the venue.

After this match, the team will switch its focus to the South American League, which will be played in Montevideo next week. Therefore, the game takes on even greater importance for the team to travel with peace of mind and a sense of accomplishment. However, before that, the team is facing a small marathon. There are three games in five days, with little time to train and rest. For Gustavinho, it's time to talk and help the players recover as best he can.
"It's about talking and physical rehabilitation. The players did gym work today and recovery with physiotherapy. We're traveling a lot and facing a very tough schedule. And it will culminate with the Copa Sudamericana. We are trying to prepare well for all the games and, consequently, for the Copa Sudamericana next week, which will be very important," said the coach. Flamengo x Joinville
There have been 12 matches between Flamengo and Joinville in the history of the NBB (Brazilian Basketball League), all in the qualifying phase. And FlaBasquete (Flamengo's basketball team) holds a huge advantage. They have 11 wins and only one loss, in the 2009-2010 season. In the last season, Flamengo won both matches, in Rio and in Santa Catarina.
At home, in a match valid for the fourth round, Flamengo won 86-75, with Marquinhos standing out, scoring 17 points and grabbing seven rebounds in the game played at the Tijuca Tennis Club. Marquinhos, incidentally, has a special history against Joinville. His personal scoring record is precisely against them, in the 2011 season. Playing for Pinheiros, the forward scored "only" 43 points in that playoff game.
In the game in Santa Catarina, Anderson Varejão shone, having just joined the team and still getting to know his teammates, scoring 15 points. Marquinhos, however, was once again the top scorer with 23 points.
FHey, Jonathan!
Flamengo's number 7, Jhonatan Luz, will play his first game at Arena Carioca representing Mengão. Last season, he was part of the Paulistano team that inflicted Flamengo's only home defeat in the qualifying phase. Today, playing on our side, the forward is excited to have the Nation supporting him at home and commented on the team's rotation. In the last game, with the exception of young Camargo (who played for 38 seconds), everyone who entered the court scored in the victory over Brasília.
"It shows the team's versatility. The team is prepared for any situation on the court, and that helps them always be at 100%. Regardless of who plays, whether it's young Camargo, Franco, or Varejão, they have to come in and be 100%, in any position and any role."
The coach's analysis
In the last game, Gustavo De Conti started Rafael Mineiro as a pivot, also taking advantage of the player's potential for long-range shots. Choosing the right team based on the opponent? He explains it himself.
"This will be a trend throughout the season. We don't have a starting player or a reserve player. Everyone is well prepared. We will start and finish the games according to what the players can offer. Despite being the same position, Anderson and Mineiro have different characteristics. Sometimes I use one, other times I use the other. I can also use both together. As I said, this will be a constant throughout the season."
Arena Carioca 1
Last season, the Olympic basketball venue made its NBB debut, and Flamengo was the main home team there. They had the highest attendance, best scores, and a record of 14 wins and only two losses. FlaBasquete's points record was set in the classic match against Botafogo: a 107-54 thrashing on the day Anderson Varejão was presented to his new team.
Flamengo hasn't played at the venue since their 71-64 victory over Mogi in May of this year.

Joinville is playing its second game of the season. In their debut, they beat Botafogo away from home by a score of 64 to 62. The standout player was Vezaro, who scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out five assists.
