The 2016/2017 FlaBasquete season has officially begun. On Tuesday night (13), the athletes available to José Neto and the coaching staff presented themselves to the fans and the press at the Hélio Maurício gymnasium, at the Gávea headquarters. Also present were the vice-president of Olympic Sports, Alexandre Póvoa, and the department's executive director, Marcelo Vido.
Ten-time Rio de Janeiro champion, five-time national champion (fourth consecutive), and champion of the League of the Americas and the World Cup, the Pride of the Nation begins its fight for more trophies soon. In September, the team will play two friendly quadrangular matches, one in Fortaleza and another in Peru, and the dispute also begins State Championship, against Botafogo, Vasco and Macaé. And On November 5th, Mais Querido opens the NBB CAIXA 9 in São Paulo, in the re-edition of the last final, against Bauru.

Expectations
Going into his second season with Rubro-Negro, Dominican Ronald Ramon took his family to the event - his son Ronald Ramon Junior (photo) stole the show - and spoke about his expectations for this year.
"It was great to be national champion in my first year at Flamengo. But this season, I really want to win the Liga das Américas. I feel good playing alongside my teammates and we're going to train hard to go after the titles once again," he said.
Having played in Brazil for five years, Ramon arrived in Gávea in January of this year and reached its peak with the Manto Sagrado in the semifinals of NBB 8, against Mogi das Cruzes, especially in Game 4, in which the point guard had a brilliant performance and was fundamental in taking the decision to the final Game 5.
This season, FlaBasquete will feature many young athletes from the under-22 squad competing in adult competitions. Marquinhos, one of the most experienced and successful players on the Flamengo squad, praised the youngsters.
"We have a completely revamped team, but with kids who, from what I've seen in the first training sessions, are very hungry to win, and it's with this momentum that we're going forward. We still have a lot to train for, to get to know each other, because to win a title we need a very good rapport, and this is the starting point," said the winger, who also commented on the preseason friendlies.
"Expectations are the best possible. Unlike other years, we'll begin preparing, not only by training but also by playing, and this will give us a good baseline. We'll see where we can improve, where we can work harder. I expect a season full of challenges," he concluded.
Motivated commander
Heading into his fifth season at FlaBasquete, with the club's most important titles in the sport's history under his belt, José Neto remains motivated. The coach believes the team, made up of experienced and younger players, has the potential to go far.
"I strongly believe in the competence and ability of more experienced players to enhance the younger ones, who have already shown their worth. I'm motivated. There have been a lot of changes in the competition (NBB). Some teams have strengthened and managed to keep their players. Our team has changed a lot. Not only our players, but also our style of play. This has happened in recent years as well. Since the first year of our work, we've had changes every season. And we adapt. The team changes, but we haven't changed our goals. This year's opponents are strong, and I believe the Carioca, NBB, and Liga das Améticas will be very tough competitions," he stated.

The Pride of the Nation returns to play this Friday (16), in Peru, for I Arequipa International Tournament, at 21 pm, against Weber Bahia. The quadrangular ends on Sunday (19).
