Flamengo's basketball team has four players called up to begin preparations for the Men's South American Championship. Argentine coach Rubén Magnano, who has been watching most of Flamengo's NBB games, called up players Olivinha, Rafael Mineiro and JP Batista, as well as physical trainer Diego Falcão, to the coaching staff. The tournament will take place in Caracas, Venezuela, from June 26 to July 2, and the players will report this Sunday (5), at 18 pm, in São Paulo.
Training will take place from May 5th to June 18th at Hebraica and Paulistano. On June 19th, the delegation will travel to Venezuela and play friendly matches from June 20th to 24th in Caracas, as preparation for the championship.
Brazil is in Group A and will face Ecuador (June 27), Paraguay (June 28), Bolivia (June 29) and Venezuela (June 30) in the qualifying phase. Group B consists of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Uruguay.
South American Championship format
According to the regulations, the ten teams were divided into two groups of five, playing each other once. The top two teams from each group qualify for the semifinals in an Olympic-style bracket: 1st A vs. 2nd B and 1st B vs. 2nd A. The winners will compete for the title on July 2nd, while the losers will play for third place.
The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo adult basketball team relies on direct funding from its sponsors – SKY and Estácio – in addition to investments from Tim via the State Sports Incentive Law/State Secretariat for Sports, Leisure and Youth (ICMS).
