FlaBasquete goes to Egypt in search of its second world championship
Intercontinental Cup will be held in Cairo, between February 11th and 13th
By Flamengo Communication - inIt's set! FIBA announced this Friday (19) the location of the 2022 Intercontinental Cup. The competition will be held in Cairo, Egypt, between February 11th and 13th. In addition to FlaBasquete, San Pablo Burgos (ESP), Lakeland Magic (USA) and Zamalek SC (EGI) are competing for the title. The draw will take place in early 2022.
The reigning Champions League of the Americas champions, the Pride of the Nation, are seeking their second world title. The Most Beloved won the tournament in 2014, after two games against Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel, in Rio de Janeiro. Among the opponents this season, the home team will be the first African team to compete in the championship, having won the inaugural FIBA Basketball Africa League.
The Spanish team San Pablo Burgos is defending its Intercontinental Cup title, while the Lakeland Magic is also making its tournament debut. The Orlando Magic's affiliate won the NBA G League in the 2020-21 season.
The basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – BRB, MOSS, TIM, AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR) and State Incentive Law/State Secretariat of Sports, Leisure and Youth (Seelje) of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to support from the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC).
