Flamengo went to Sorocaba this Wednesday (07.11) to face the home team, Liga Sorocabana, in their second match of the Novo Basquete Brasil 2014/2015. Even facing a tough opponent on the other side, in a very close game, Flamengo secured another victory in the competition.

The game

Before the match began, José Neto, coach of Orgulho da Nação, received a tribute from coach Rinaldo Rodrigues, from the Sorocaba team, congratulating the red-black team for their success in winning the basketball world championship.

With the ball in play, Flamengo quickly showed what they were made of. Despite trailing, Flamengo quickly took the lead. With Herrmann performing excellently in the paint, Marcelinho once again excelling on three-pointers, and Nico shining with assists, the reigning NBB champions had no trouble securing a 26-19 victory in the first quarter.

In a more even second quarter, Liga Sorocabana fought back. But on the other side, Flamengo played with great intensity throughout. The great movement of Benite and Gegê led to several plays for Flamengo that resulted in points. With the second quarter ending at 26-26, the Pride of the Nation finished the first half ahead 52-45.

As the first half ended, the game remained fairly even, with both teams battling point after point. Even with Herrmann and Jerome Meyinsse grabbing good rebounds, the third quarter ended with another tie, this time 18-18.

In the final period, Flabasquete once again demonstrated the strength of its squad. This time, Marquinhos and Gegê performed exceptionally well. With shots and assists, respectively, the two Flamengo players helped score 27 points for Orgulho da Nação, who, while not securing victory in the quarterfinals, secured the game. With a 29-27 lead for the home team, Flamengo secured its second victory in its second NBB game, 97-92.

The Pride of the Nation takes to the court again next Wednesday (12.11), at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gymnasium, against Franca, and counts on the support of the Biggest Fanbase in the World to make a difference once again.
