FlaBasquete won another match in the Campeonato Carioca this Sunday (11.10). This time, the opponent was Macaé, defeated 82 x 63, and the Most Beloved team counted on the strength of the fans, present in good numbers at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium, in Gávea. On Monday of next week (19.10), FlaBasquete plays the last game of the qualifying phase against Botafogo. The team is already in the final of the competition. Now, the Most Beloved in the World focuses its forces on the NBA Challenge against the Orlando Magic next Saturday (17.10), at the HSBC Arena.

Macaé started the match with Gegê, Marquinhos, Mingau, Robinson, and Meyinsse. Marquinhos opened the scoring with a three-pointer. Macaé closed the gap and took a 7-5 lead, but Robinson once again put Macaé ahead with a three-pointer. Marquinhos then scored, and Jerome extended the lead with two more points each. The American was even fouled, but his shot missed the penalty: 12-9. 

Marquinhos was then fouled and converted on both of his attempts. Mingau opened up an 8-point lead for FlaBasquete with another three-pointer in the first quarter. Macaé called a timeout and scored two on the return leg after a Flamengo defense stumbled, responding with a counterattack in which Marquinhos was fouled. With about three minutes remaining in the quarter, JP came on for Meyinsse. Macaé tried to score, but José Neto's defense worked well, and Robinson was fouled on another Flamengo counterattack, converting his shots. Gegê and Marquinhos came off, making way for Marcelinho and Rafa Luz. After a tentative comeback from Macaé, Marcelinho converted a beautiful three-pointer, and Flamengo finished the first quarter leading 24-17.

For the second quarter, Flamengo returned to the court with Rafa Luz, Marquinhos, Mingau, Marcelinho, and JP Batista. Macaé opened the scoring with 4 points, closing in on Flamengo at 24-21. José Neto called a timeout with 7:56 of the fourth quarter's countdown. Mingau came off, allowing Robinson to come on. Marquinhos' three-pointer extended Flamengo's lead, and Robinson was fouled after converting a two-pointer, putting Flamengo back ahead by 9 points: 31-21. It was Macaé's turn to call a timeout with the clock at 6:46. 

Macaé returned with the same lineup. JP restarted with a defensive rebound and scored two points on the counterattack. Meyinsse then replaced JP Batista. Macaé scored a three-pointer, but it was the red-and-black fans in the gym who celebrated when Rafa Luz assisted Marquinhos with another three-pointer. Luz then repeated the feat and scored another three points for Macaé. He was fouled on a play started by Meyinse and made no mistake: he converted both of his shots. He then left the field to applause, allowing Gegê to enter the field.

The score was 40-26, and after Robinson's 2-point attempt, Meyinsse grabbed a rebound and was fouled after scoring two more points for Flamengo. With an assist from Gegê on another fast break, Mingau, who had come on for Marquinhos, was fouled and converted both of his shots. Jorge came on for Mingau and, on his first attacking play, assisted Robinson's two-pointer. Flamengo closed the quarter with two more points from Robinson, to the applause of the crowd: 2-49.

Before the game resumed, children practiced shooting during halftime. At the start of the third quarter, FlaBasquete returned with Gegê, Robinson, Marquinhos, Marcelinho, and Meyinsse. Macaé opened the scoring with just one minute left, but after a beautiful one-two between Marquinhos and Meyinsse, Flamengo opened the series with two points from Marquinhos: 51-31.

Neto called a timeout after Macaé closed the gap to 16 points. Rafa Luz came on for Gegê. Macaé responded and closed the gap to ten points. Neto brought on JP for Meyinsse. With a pass from Marcelinho, JP dribbled past the defense in the paint and converted two easy shots for Flamengo. On the counterattack, Luz passed to Marquinhos, who attempted a three-pointer but missed. The rebound fell to JP, who assisted Marcelinho with a 61-pointer: 46-XNUMX.

Rafa Luz converted and was fouled. In the final minutes of the game, the teams scored few points while defending more aggressively. JP Batista extended Flamengo's lead to 75-56. Neto then brought on Pedro, from the under-22 team, for Marquinhos, with Marcelinho replacing Rafa Luz. 

Pedro is fouled on the counterattack and converts a free throw, giving Flamengo a 20-point lead again. Macaé scores a few points, but after an assist from Gegê, Mingau scores two more. Then, a foul is thrown on Marcelinho, who scores two points. Pedro is fouled again and scores another point for Flamengo. Danielzinho replaces Gegê before the end of the game, winning 82-63. 

Marquinhos led the way with 20 points. More than just the victory, coach José Neto celebrated the team's ability to demonstrate the results of the last few days of training.

"I think we were able to put into practice a lot of what we learned this week. We really practiced the quality of rhythm, which is what we'll need to win games, not just in Rio de Janeiro but also in the upcoming NBA, which will be a very high level. We were able to improve the quality of rhythm we need to play against Orlando," he analyzed.
