Flamengo is in the final of the State Basketball Championship. The team, which is looking for its sixth championship, defeated Cabo Frio 91 x 85, on Wednesday night (08.12), in Cabo Frio, and closed the semifinal series 2 to 0. In the first game, last Tuesday (07.12), Fla had already won 76 x 65. In the decision, scheduled for the 15th and 16th, Rubro-negro will face Tijuca, which dispatched Macaé.
Flamengo's next challenge, however, will be Sunday in the NBB (New Basketball Brazil). The team faces Pinheiros at 15:30 pm at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gymnasium. The match will be broadcast on Sportv. Forward/guard Marcelinho led all scorers with 34 points. Once again, the team was without forward/guard Duda, who is recovering from a sprained right ankle. Forward/center Jefferson, who was rested due to muscle pain.
Flamengo took the court with a different attitude than in the first game, in Tijuca. Cabo Frio only showed any signs of fighting back late in the second quarter, but even so, Flamengo went into halftime leading 46-40.
In the second half, the team felt the strain again. Even so, the lead remained around 10 points in the third quarter, which ended 73-63 in favor of Flamengo. With six minutes remaining, the lead was down to three points (76-73). But Flamengo capitalized on the counterattacks and opened up an 80-73 lead. In the end, it was just a matter of managing the advantage: 91-85.
Flamengo started with Marcelinho (34), Guto (5), Fred (9), Teichmman (15) and Bábby (17). Entered: Átila (4), Helio (5) and Wagner (2).
