Flamengo is one win away from its first title of the 2012/2013 season. In the first game of the best-of-three State Basketball Final, the team defeated Tijuca 108-79 on Monday night (November 05.11th) at the Tijuca Tennis Club. The Rubro-negro can lift the trophy this Wednesday (November 07.11th), when the two teams face each other again at 20 p.m. at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium in Gávea. The team is seeking its eighth consecutive title in the competition.
"Our defense didn't perform as expected in the first half, but we were having an inspired day on offense and got a great win. Now it's time to decide the title at home," said Marcelinho, the game's top scorer with 22 points.
The match started evenly, with the first quarter ending 24-20 in favor of Flamengo. Due to poor defense, Flamengo allowed Tijuca to equalize in the second quarter (32-32). But the three-pointers made the difference for the Gávea team in the first half: eight of 10 attempts were made. The team managed to build a 10-point lead (43-33) and went into halftime leading 47-41.
In the second half, Flamengo managed to maintain the difference at around 10 points and at the end of the third quarter they opened up a 79 x 66 lead. In the final quarter, Rubro-negro managed to manage the advantage and close at 108 x 79.
"A final game is always more complicated, it's different. We didn't have a good start, and Tijuca, for their part, were doing very well. Little by little, our game began to come together, and we managed to stay calm until the end, achieving a great victory," said Vitor Benite.
Flamengo started with: Benite (8), Marcelinho (22), Marquinhos (21), Olivinha (9) and Shilton (11). Entered: Kojo (11), Caio Torres (8), Duda (16), Gegê (), Feliz (-), Alexandre (-) and Diego (-).
