Flamengo Regatta Club presented, on Monday afternoon (12.08), the two foreign reinforcements hired for the basketball team: the American Jerome Meyinsse and the Argentine Nicolás Laprovittola. Alongside them, during the presentation at the Gávea headquarters, were the President of the Club, Mr. Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, the VP of Olympic Sports, Alexandre Póvoa, and the Executive Director of Olympic Sports, Marcelo Vido.
"It's a great pleasure to be here announcing the signing of two strong reinforcements for our basketball team. I'm sure the team is growing stronger and stronger. With the arrival of Meyinsse and Laprovittola, we'll have great joy in the State Championship, the League of the Americas, and then the NBB," said the Flamengo president. After the Flamengo president's speech, Alexandre Póvoa welcomed the foreign players.
"We are very proud to have you both with us. I appreciate your confidence in us, and you can be sure that we want to win everything. Welcome," said the VP of Olympic Sports. Marcelo Vido took the opportunity to emphasize the strength of the group. "We are assembling an extremely competitive squad. They are young athletes who have already won several titles," stated the department's Executive Director.
After listening to the board members, Laprovittola made it clear that he came to win titles. "With this squad, the expectation is to be a champion. At a club like Flamengo, the goal is to always win. We have to approach matches with this mentality and energy. That's what Flamengo deserves," said the club's new point guard.
The other signing, Meyinsse, said it won't take long for him to adapt to the Brazilian basketball style and that he only heard praise for the club when he asked friends who had played at Gávea about Flamengo. Throughout the presentation, he seemed very excited about joining the Mais Querido.
"I played against Flamengo last year and it was very difficult. They beat my former team (Regatas Corrientes) by one point and I saw they were very good players. They played very hard, which made me want to come here and do the same. I want to help bring titles this year. That's my expectation," said the American center.
Flamengo's third signing for the 2013/14 season is power forward Cristiano Felício. Despite being only 21 years old, he currently plays for the Brazilian national team. Therefore, he was not present at the new signings' presentation held today in Gávea.
