Flamengo's dominance of Rio basketball continues. Even playing away against Cabo Frio, the reigning four-time state champions had no trouble crushing the team from the Lagos Region 130-49 and achieving their sixth consecutive victory in the 2009 edition of the competition. With this result, Flamengo remains the undisputed leader and is ever closer to a fifth consecutive Campeonato Carioca title. Now, the team turns its attention to Friday's game against Saldanha da Gama in the second round of the Novo Basquete Brasil, a tournament in which Flamengo is also the defending champion.

Flamengo dominated the match from start to finish and showed the home team that they weren't just visiting the Lakes Region. With Marcelinho taking responsibility and scoring 30 points in the first half (five more than the entire Cabo Frio team), the red-and-blacks had little trouble winning the first quarter 32-13 and the second 30-12, closing the first half with an incredible 62-25 lead.

In the second half, the coach's team could have slowed down and just managed the result, but who said the red-and-blacks wanted to take their foot off the gas? On the contrary, Marcelinho and company accelerated the game even more, taking advantage of the opportunity to gain game rhythm on the eve of another NBB game (the team returns to the court next Friday, at HSBC Arena, to face Saldanha da Gama), and continued to put on a real show in Cabo Frio.

The number 4 went on to score 17 more points in the final 20 minutes of the game, finishing with 47 and being the star of the red-and-black team's resounding 81-point victory: 130 to 49. Marcelinho's long-range shooting stood out. He took 15 shots and converted nine. Newly signed Guilherme Teichmann also performed well, having an excellent second half with three fantastic dunks and pulling off some great counterattacks, finishing with 20 points.
