Clube de Regatas do Flamengo informs that point guard Alexey Borges, upon returning from his commitments with the Brazilian National Team during the last FIBA ​​window at the end of November, presented with bone edema in his knee. Conservative treatment was performed, based on rest from sporting activities and physiotherapy, the usual protocol for this type of injury. The athlete was monitored over the following weeks, a period in which clinical improvement is expected within four to six weeks.

At the end of this period, Alexey was re-evaluated, but did not show the desired clinical progress. Despite partial improvement, the athlete continued to report significant pain and demonstrated limitations in specific basketball movements, which prevented his return to sports activities. A new imaging exam was performed, confirming that the progress was not sufficient for clearance to return to training.

Given this scenario, Flamengo's medical department, in conjunction with knee specialists, opted for a new therapeutic approach, of a surgical nature. The athlete will undergo an arthroscopic procedure, with subchondroplasty, a technique that involves the application of a biological material to the bone, with the aim of accelerating the bone repair process.

The decision was made in consensus with the athlete, prioritizing the full recovery of his health and seeking a safer and more effective return to sporting activities. After the procedure, the expected recovery time for returning to specific basketball activities is six to eight weeks, respecting the athlete's clinical progress.

Flamengo will continue to closely monitor Alexey Borges' recovery process and will provide further updates as needed.

Ramiro Santiago strengthens FlaBasquete for the BCLA.

The 26-year-old Argentinian playmaker will wear the number 24 jersey.

Flamengo announces the signing of 26-year-old point guard Ramiro Santiago for the Basketball Champions League Americas (BCLA). The Argentine player joins the club with an initial one-month contract, valid for the Rio de Janeiro window of the competition this week, and for the Argentine window in early February. At the end of this period, Flamengo may extend the contract until the end of the BCLA, should they choose to retain the player.

Born on March 16, 1999, in Bahía Blanca, Argentina, Ramiro Santiago is 1,93 m tall, plays as a playmaker, and will wear the Sacred Mantle with the number 24 jersey. The new signing is registered exclusively for the Champions League Americas competition..

A fellow countryman of coach Sergio Hernández, Ramiro was discovered in his hometown, playing for El Nacional and Villa Mitre. He built part of his career in the United States, where he graduated in International Business from Harding University in 2023. In professional basketball, the point guard has played in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and most recently for Adamant Ferrara in Italy's Serie B. In Brazil, Ramiro played for Botafogo in the 2023/24 NBB season, averaging 8,2 points per game and standing out especially for his three-point shooting percentage.
