FlaBasquete won its second match in the Rio de Janeiro Basketball Championship. After beating Macaé in its debut, the Pride of the Nation visited Botafogo yesterday (30/09), in Tijuca, and beat its rival 79x57. The next match for the red-black team will be against Vasco da Gama, on Monday (03), also at Tijuca Tênis Clube, with a single crowd. Flamengo is the home team and tickets are now on sale.
José Neto's team controlled the entire match. In the first quarter, the red-and-black quintet opened up a large lead (18-4). With a more experienced team, the reigning NBB champions continued to set a strong pace and closed the first half with a 40-22 lead.
In the second half, the pace changed, and Flamengo began to control the match. Still, they maintained a strong lead in the third and fourth quarters, and the game closed at 79-57.
JP Batista led the team with 25 points. Olivinha scored 16 and Marquinhos 11, making two three-pointers on three attempts.
"We have a lot to improve, but we did well and managed to win by a good margin. They're young (under-22 players), but that's what they play for, to gain experience. I've been through this before, but our duty as veterans is to teach and guide," Olivinha declared.
The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo adult basketball team relies on direct funding from its sponsor Estácio, in addition to investments from Tim via the State Sports Incentive Law/State Secretariat for Sports, Leisure and Youth (ICMS).
