Flamengo seeks recovery against Brasilia

One of the most intense rivalries in Brazilian basketball today, the match against Brasília this Sunday (March 27.03), will be even more important for Flamengo. A victory will secure Flamengo's place back in first place in the NBB (New Basketball Brazil). The match, part of the 13th round of the second half of the season, will be played at Tijuca Tênis Clube at 13 p.m., with broadcast on SPORTV. Tickets cost R$10. Fans wearing Flamengo shirts and students with membership cards pay R$5.
After losing to Uberlândia last Friday (March 25), the Gávea team dropped to second place in the table, tied with Pinheiros: 18 wins in 25.03 games (72% success rate). The São Paulo team has the advantage in the first tiebreaker, head-to-head records. Brasília, with one game and one win more, is in the lead.
Flamengo and Brasília have faced each other in the last three national finals, with the red-and-blacks winning in 2008 (National Championship) and 2009 (first edition of the NBB). Brasília won the title in 2010. In the South American League, the last two finals were also between the teams: Flamengo won in 2009 and Brasília, in 2010.
After Sunday's game, Flamengo will face two more NBB qualifying round matches, both away from home: São José on April 1st and Limeira on April 3rd. If they finish the second round in the top four, the Rio de Janeiro team will secure a spot in the Interleague Tournament, which features the top four teams in the NBB and the top four in the Argentine Basketball League. Host cities have yet to be announced, but the competition will take place from April 8th to 10th in Argentina (for the top two teams in the Argentine Basketball League and the third and fourth-place teams in the NBB) and from April 15th to 17th in Brazil (for the top two teams in the NBB and the third and fourth-place teams in the Argentine Basketball League).
"The defeat to Uberlândia is in the past. We now have to focus on the match against Brasília, which is a great team. Besides, a victory will guarantee us the top spot," said winger Marcelinho.
