Flamengo begins its quest for a spot in the final of the State Basketball Championship this Tuesday (December 07.12th). Seeking its sixth title in the competition, the team faces Cabo Frio at 20 p.m. at the Tijuca Tennis Club gymnasium in the first semifinal match. Admission is free.

The second game will be played on Wednesday (December 08.12th), at the same time, in Cabo Frio. Tijuca has already qualified for the finals (December 14th and 15th), after beating Macaé. Coach Paulo Chupeta's team has a 100% record in the tournament. In the qualifying phase, they played 10 games and won 10.

Against Cabo Frio, the team will be without shooting guard Duda, who is still recovering from a sprained right ankle. On the other hand, center Bábby, who missed Flamengo's last two NBB (New Basketball Brazil) games, will be back in the lineup. The player sprained his right ankle during the first match of the South American League finals, played last week in Rio, and played the entire tournament with difficulty. On Monday (December 06.12), Bábby was evaluated and cleared to play.

Flamengo faced Cabo Frio twice in the State Championship. In the first round, they won 80-50, and in the second, 96-52. Even so, coach Chupeta issued a warning:

"Cabo Frio has a good, well-organized team, and we're coming off a marathon of games in the South American and the NBB, with some players injured. We have to be careful," said the coach.

Flamengo also remains undefeated in the NBB, with four wins. Over the weekend, the team defeated Assis 91-77 and Bauru 81-80 in matches played in the interior of São Paulo. Flamengo leads the competition, alongside Franca, which is also undefeated (three games and three wins), but trails in average points (the first tiebreaker): 1.312 for Flamengo, compared to 1.097 for the São Paulo team.
