The first quarter was fairly even, with both teams alternating in front. Flamengo played well on defense, but struggled to find a way to attack. Coach Paulo Chupeta made three changes to Flamengo, taking off Hélio, Duda, and Teichmann and bringing on Fred, Lamonte, and Jefferson, respectively. Flamengo closed the quarter 13-11. In the second quarter, Flamengo managed to impose its rhythm and quickly opened up a 12-point lead (27-15). The team went into halftime leading 34-20.

In the second half, Chupeta continued to experiment with various formations, and Flamengo maintained a strong defense and a solid attack. Thus, it was easy to maintain their lead without being threatened by their opponent, until closing the third quarter at 60-30 and the game at 80-50.

"We started with a very strong defense, so much so that Cabo Frio only scored 11 points in the first quarter, but we weren't able to play collectively. After we got our attack right, we took off and then it was just a matter of maintaining the advantage," said point guard Fred.
