Enter any competition to be champion. That's what Flamengo's history dictates, and that's how it will be in the Liga das Américas, which will begin for the beloved team next Friday (February 14.02th) in Ecuador. For the Argentinian point guard Laprovittola, it's clear to the entire squad that the continental trophy is the goal to be achieved.
"I believe the most important thing is that Flamengo has the clear objective of winning the competition. It's a short tournament, and therefore it's important to go in with a winning mentality," he said.
As he is Argentinian, Laprovittola's first language is Spanish, which is the official language of the Liga de las Américas and spoken by all referees. This allows for easy communication with the judges and the table officials, but, according to the player himself, this fact is not considered an advantage for Flamengo.
"I don't think it changes anything. I believe the most important thing is the experience of knowing and knowing how to play in an international competition. That's something that players like Marcelinho, Olivinha, and Marquinhos have," he said.
Laprovittola himself also has experience in international competitions. Last year, playing for Lanús in Argentina, he was runner-up in the Liga de las Américas. Furthermore, the point guard is one of the key players for his country's national team.
Flamengo will make its debut in the Liga das Américas at 21 pm next Friday (February 14.02th), against Capitanes de Arecibo. On the following two days, the red-and-black team will also face Mavort and Leones de Quilpue. All four clubs are in Group D of the competition.
