Last Friday (29), the Flamengo U14 basketball team beat Grêmio Náutico União, in Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul, in the final of the 20th South American Championship in the category, and won the tournament title. On the same night, the U15 team also took to the court to compete for the title, but was defeated by one point difference by Pinheiros. Last week, the U13 team from the Biggest in the World won the South American Championship. 

The Flamengo youth basketball team's under-14 campaign started very well: two wins in the first two games. First, the team beat Minas Tênis Clube 43-23 and then Juvenil 59-40. In the third round, Flamengo was defeated by Círculo Militar 32-34, but recovered by beating Ginástica 59-28 to close out the first phase. The first game of the next phase was a defeat against Febamba by 48 to 52, however, victories over Álvares Cabral by 42 to 21 and Metodista by a score of 52 to 38 qualified Flamengo for the final against Grêmio Náutico União. The decision was exciting from beginning to end and the turnaround happened just two minutes from the end, when Grêmio Náutico União became destabilized and saw Flamengo's under-14 team close out the game 53 to 47 and celebrate their championship victory.

In the under-15 category, the Flamengo youth team, which reached the final undefeated, lost by only one point to the Pinheiros team. In the first phase, they had four easy victories over Sport (55-27), Juvenil (75-18), Círculo Militar (52-15), and Apaba (65-25). In the second phase, Flamengo defeated Sogipa (56-28), Vizinhança (48-42), Hebraica (47-31), and Corinthians (50-28). In the decisive match against Pinheiros, Flamengo was defeated 41-40 and took home the silver medal in the tournament.
