Flamengo secured another victory in the State Basketball Championship. On Thursday night, the team defeated Riachuelo 104-61 at the Municipal Club gymnasium in a match valid for the first round of the competition's return leg. In the first round, Flamengo won 114-56. Forward/guard Marcelinho led the way with 34 points.

Flamengo played without point guard Fred and winger Teichmman, who are recovering from injuries and were rested.

In the first half, Flamengo struggled to defend and went into the break winning 48-33. The lead reached 10 points in the third quarter (58-48), but with four three-pointers from Marcelinho - three of them in a row - Flamengo closed the quarter at 72-52. Flamengo started to enjoy the game more and the lead increased even more in the last quarter (87-54). Then it was just a matter of keeping the pace and closing at 104-61.

"The team started off a bit poorly, but during the break we focused on what we had been training during the week and the team got into gear," explained point guard Helio.

Flamengo now heads to Argentina for the South American League. The team debuts on October 28.10 against Malvin of Uruguay. The team travels to Buenos Aires next Monday (October 25.10), where they will play a friendly the following day against Los Indios, from Argentina's second division. On Wednesday (October 27.10), the team heads to Santiago del Estero, where the League will be played. Flamengo is in Group B, which also includes Inacap (CHI) and Quimsa (ARG). The top two teams in the group qualify for the final hexagonal.

"It will be a tough competition, where we will need all our players. But we are prepared," said forward/center Jefferson.

Flamengo played with: Helio (7), Marcelinho (34), Duda (13), Jefferson (14) and Bábby (22). Entered: Átila (2), Guto (10), Wagner (2) and Guilherme (-).
