Flamengo concludes its participation in the NBB qualifying phase this Thursday (05.04) in a Rio de Janeiro classic. The team faces Tijuca at 19 pm at the Tijuca Tennis Club Gymnasium in Rio. The Rubro-Negro is fourth in the overall standings, with 20 wins in 27 games (74,07% success rate), behind Pinheiros and São José, both with 21 wins in 26 matches (80,77%), and Brasília, with 20 wins in 26 games (76,92%).
Already assured of a top-four spot—giving them home-court advantage in the quarterfinal playoffs—Flamengo can still climb a spot in the standings. To do so, they must beat Tijuca and hope for Brasília to stumble against Minas on April 06.04 or Bauru on April 10.04.
The team enters the court motivated by two victories at home: against Limeira, in extra time, by 97 x 96, on March 29th, and against Araraquara, by 81 x 65, on March 31st. In the first round, Rubro-Negro got the better of the Rio derby: 86 x 71. In 13th place, with 9 victories in 27 games (33,33% success rate), Tijuca fights for a place in the round of 16.
"It's going to be a tough game, as Tijuca is fighting for a spot in the playoffs and it's all in. We have to go out on the court focused and alert, especially defensively, where we didn't perform well in the last match," said center Caio Torres.
Flamengo will still be without captain Marcelinho, who is recovering from a fracture in the third finger of his left hand.
