As Flamengo's revamped basketball team prepares for the South American League and the NBB, it will face an important test this Wednesday (October 03.10). The team will face Brasília, the current three-time national champion, in a friendly match at 20 p.m. at the Tijuca Tennis Club Gymnasium. Entry will cost 1 kg of non-perishable food.
The match is considered one of the greatest classics in Brazilian basketball today. Flamengo and Brasília have decided the NBB title in two editions of the tournament. In 2009, Flamengo won the title. The following season, the Brasília team took the title.
Flamengo is competing in the State Championship (winning both matches so far) and is also using the competition to prepare for the season's upcoming challenges. With six reinforcements, the team is looking to establish chemistry and match rhythm.
Making his debut in the red and black jersey, Brazilian national team winger Marquinhos is eager to play in his first national derby for the Rio de Janeiro team.
"Fla vs. Brasília is a classic that all the players want to play. After all, they are the two NBB champions and there is always a rivalry, a taste of finals. It will be a tough game, like all the others to date, and I'm very excited," said Marquinhos, who believes his opponent will have a slight advantage: "Brasília has been together for four years and we are still in the preparation phase, looking to gel. But it will be an important test for us," he added.
Flamengo will still play three more friendlies in Buenos Aires, on the 8th, 9th and 10.10th of October, against Boca Jrs., Lanus and Velez, respectively.
