Flamengo, the current four-time consecutive champion of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB), has finalized its roster for the 2016/2017 season and is already facing a preparatory tournament against future opponents in the ninth edition of the national championship. The competition will feature Vasco, winner of the Liga Ouro, and Basquete Cearense and Vitória, two elite Brazilian basketball teams from the Northeast. The quadrangular will take place from September 25th to 26th in Fortaleza, with the following matchups:

The start of NBB 9 is scheduled for early November, with no dates yet announced by the National Basketball League (LNB). To defend the national title and compete in the League of the Americas and the Campeonato Carioca, red-and-black coach José Neto has a squad made up of Marcelinho, Marquinhos, Olivinha, Humberto, Ricardo Fischer, Rafael Mineiro, JP Batista, Ronald Ramon and the young Leo Bispo, Lele and Pedrinho.

The Clube de Regatas do Flamengo adult basketball team relies on direct funding from its sponsor Estácio, in addition to investments from Tim via the State Sports Incentive Law/State Secretariat for Sports, Leisure and Youth (ICMS).
