This weekend (11th and 12th), the João Carlos de Oliveira Sports Center "João do Pulo" hosted the 1st Pindamonhangaba Basketball Cup. With the participation of Taubaté, Corinthians, Pindamonhangaba and Flamengo, the Most Beloved took the cup and won its first title of the season in the Under-17 category.
The big decision was against Taubaté and Flamengo won comfortably by 81 to 37. Before that, however, Rubro-Negro beat the home team from Pindamonhangaba and ended their participation with only positive results.
Marcos Mendes, known as Beegu, the category's coach, commented on the importance of Mais Querido's victory and what it represents at the start of the season.
"It was our first tournament of the year. We have a new team, completely revamped from last year, and for the start of the season, winning this trophy was very important for the team to gain personality, team spirit, and experience. It was a very well-done tournament, very well organized, and very beneficial for us," explained Beegu.
The Campeonato Carioca Sub-17, the next challenge for the boys from the base of the red-black basketball team, takes place in April and will feature six more teams.
The youth basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo receive funding from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, and EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), as well as support from the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources generated by the Pelé Law. The Anjo da Guarda Rubro-Negro (Red-Black Guardian Angel Project), a tax transfer from individuals, benefits all Olympic sports of the Most Beloved Club.
