Last Sunday (10) the U-11 boys of the red-black basketball team lifted the trophy for champion of the 2019 Open Tournament of the category. Throughout the year, the team competed in some festivals and games, and in a sum of several criteria, they won the title. Gustavo Machado, son of the eternal captain Marcelinho, joined the #CriasDaGávea squad and filled his father with pride, who even made a publication on the internet.

"Congratulations, son! We never forget our first title! Even more so with the shirt!" celebrates Marcelinho.

For Flamengo's youth academy technical coordinator, Paulo Chupeta, the important thing is the set of factors that ensure boys continue to be encouraged to play sports.  

"There are several festivals throughout the year, one per month, and they add up points for attendance, uniform, game wins, coaches' behavior, and the team's best performance. fair play, etc. They tally up the points and ultimately decide who wins. All this to avoid a round-robin tournament to decide who wins, so it doesn't feel like a championship, since that's not the goal at this age. We're very excited about the youth development for the U-11 boys, and now, on the 20th, the U-12s' race for the championship begins," explains Chupeta.
