Already qualified for the next phase of the Champions League Americas (BCLA), Flamengo was defeated by Obras 85-75 in Argentina this Monday (9). In a very balanced duel, the Argentine team maintained the lead for much of the game and took advantage of the final minutes of the last quarter to secure the victory.

Now, Flamengo will face the Mexican team Astros de Jalisco in the BCLA quarterfinals. The first game of the best-of-three series will be played in Rio de Janeiro. Before that, the Rubro-Negro will have matches in the NBB (Brazilian basketball league). 

1st Bedroom

Flamengo started the game by opening the scoring with two points from Wesley. The Obras team responded immediately, scoring six points in the first two minutes. The duel remained balanced throughout the first quarter, but always with the Argentinians in the lead. When they went down to the offensive court, Flamengo made some mistakes and wasted important shots. Taking advantage of the Carioca team's errors, the home team closed the quarter winning 16-11. 

2st Bedroom

Seeking a comeback, Santiago penetrated the paint and scored two more points for Flamengo at the start of the second quarter. Then, Kayo Gonçalves and Shaq Johnson each hit a three-pointer to put Flamengo ahead for the first time in the game. However, Obras regained their efficiency from three-point range and took the lead again. Flamengo had chances to turn the game around before halftime, but continued to struggle with their shots. Meanwhile, Obras capitalized on their offensive opportunities and went into halftime with a 41-30 lead. 

3st Bedroom

Returning for the third quarter, the game continued with the same pattern: Obras in the lead and Flamengo trying to find their footing. During a period of instability for the Argentinian team, Flamengo took advantage to close the gap. The improvement in the red-and-black team was largely due to their tighter defense, which reduced space and forced errors from the Argentinians. Towards the end of the period, the game was tied with the teams trading points. In the final moments, the Argentinians regained the lead. With a three-pointer from Gui Deodato, the Pride of the Nation cut the difference to just one point: 57 to 56. 

4st Bedroom

In the final quarter, the duel remained very balanced and open. Almost halfway through the period, Obras regained the lead. Shaq Johnson, at a crucial moment, converted a three-pointer to reduce the deficit and put Flamengo back in contention. Then, Negrete hit a three-pointer, making the final minutes electrifying. However, the Argentinian team proved more efficient on offense and secured the victory 85-75.

Next challenge

Flamengo returns to the court next Friday (13) to face São José, at 20 pm, at Maracanãzinho, for the NBB.
