Last Tuesday (10), the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo delivered non-perishable food items from a solidarity campaign in partnership with one of its FlaBasquete sponsors, Estácio. After the preparatory training session for the 2017/18 season competitions led by José Neto, the group received representatives from Solar Meninos de Luz and Estácio at the Hélio Maurício gymnasium for a morning of celebration.
"In the game against Vitória, we asked for 1 kg of food as a way to buy admission to the gym and ended up raising about 70 kg. It doesn't matter how many kg it was, but rather the act of being able to help those who are always contributing to the community, often giving us kindness. Now it's time to thank them for all this support, thank the other institutions that also contribute to this NGO, and may we increasingly bring this hope and joy to life in the smiles of children. Being part of this movement contributes greatly to our expectations as educators of citizens," says Neto.
The two basketball friendly matches against Vitória took place in Gávea on September 26th and 27th, and there were no plans to charge admission fees. In a joint effort, Flamengo decided to ask its fans to embrace the campaign, and Estácio recommended the NGO, which has been a partner with the educational institution for several years.
"Estácio has supported Solar Meninos de Luz since 2014 as a transformative social institution that serves approximately 400 children and young people in situations of social vulnerability. Carrying out initiatives like this is part of our mission to Educate to Transform," said Cláudia Romano, Vice President of Institutional Relations and Sustainability at Estácio.
Solar Meninos de Luz serves children and young people full-time, from nursery to high school. Meals are served daily to eligible students from the Pavão-Pavãozinho and Cantagalo communities in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
"This donation is very important because it helps us maintain the school, as we provide three meals a day for the students – breakfast, lunch, and a snack – which averages 1.500 meals a day. We have 400 children and 100 employees, so this food donation is essential. The experience of the children meeting the team was also very cool," celebrates Fernando Barbosa, Marketing Assistant at Solar Meninos de Luz.
The Pride of the Nation's next official commitment is the Copa Avianca, between October 25th and 31st, in Minas Gerais.
The basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo receive funding from their sponsors – Estácio, AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, and EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR) and the State Incentive Law/Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Sports, Recreation, and Youth (Seelje), in addition to support from the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources generated by the Pelé Law. The Anjo da Guarda Rubro-Negro Project, a personal tax transfer, benefits all Olympic sports of the Most Beloved.
