For the 21st time in the history of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), Flamengo and Paulistano will face each other this Saturday (3), at 14 pm, at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gymnasium. Victorious in 18 of the 20 games so far, including the final game of the 2013/2014 season, Rubro-Negro will be looking for its sixth consecutive victory in the tournament.

"Paulistano is a team that will always be fighting for the top positions. I believe their team will be competing for the championship until the end, and if they aren't today, they become even more dangerous, because that's what they're aiming for. They have the reinforcement of an Argentinian in Position 4, an athlete who came from the Paraguayan League and played very well; he's quite versatile. They are very excited, with experienced players, so we have to be attentive, put a better rhythm into our defense, to leave here with another victory," analyzed coach José Neto.
The Flamengo team is undefeated and holds the sole lead in the NBB 9 standings. According to the coach, the secret to their unbeaten run is the team's mentality of viewing each game as a final.
"I told the players before the game that in my first season here, we broke a record for consecutive wins. We went through the entire first half of the season and several more games in the second half without losing. And when you go through that, you know it's possible. So we work hard on that. We have a lot of respect for our opponents. Not that the others don't respect us, but we always put a lot of focus on the next game. Every game is the most important game of the championship. With this mentality, we have a commitment to victory. It can never be any different for Flamengo," Neto concluded.

The last time these two teams faced each other was in the second round of NBB 8, on February 4th of this year. Flamengo won 75-65, with Marquinhos leading the scoring with 17 points. The number 11 also grabbed eight rebounds, dished out four assists, and totaled an efficiency rating of 18. Besides having already faced each other in an NBB final, Flamengo and the team from the capital of São Paulo have also met in a playoff game of the National League championship. In the best-of-three quarterfinal series of NBB 5, Flamengo prevailed, winning all three games (100-91, 80-76, and 84-64).

Olivinha is one of the standout players of the season so far. The power forward has the highest average rebounds among the players in the competition. Marquinhos is not far behind, with the highest average points per game of the season.
