Flamengo had an unusual start to the match. The red-and-black team entered the court working the ball and finding good shots, but during the first 10 minutes, they only had about 20% shooting from the field. Due to their low conversion rate, Flamengo ended up losing to Caxias in the first half, 16-9.

Late in the period, Mengão got going with baskets from Alexey and Shaq Johnson, but Caxias managed to level the score again. Halftime ended with the score tied at 34-34.

After the locker room, the pace remained intense and even. The two teams traded baskets in what was the most prolific quarter of the match. The final quarter started evenly. Caxias subsequently asserted itself and opened up a six-point lead. Faced with the setback, coach Sergio Hernandez called a timeout and reorganized the team.
