Flamengo is defeated by Mogi in the 8th round of NBB 12
The São Paulo team closed the match 75-74
By Romulo Paranhos - inFlamengo entered the court on Friday night (15), at Arena Carioca 2, and was beaten by Mogi by 75 to 74 in the eighth round of NBB 12. Marquinhos was the red-black highlight in the match with 18 points.
The game
The match began with Flamengo going on the attack, scoring their first points through Olivinha, Jhonatan Luz, and Zach Graham. The Flamengo defense was well-positioned, making it difficult for Mogi to penetrate the field. Flamengo's standout performer in the first quarter, Jhonatan scored ten points, helping Mengão close out the game at 24-22.
Early in the second quarter, Zach Graham and Marquinhos, with three-pointers, immediately scored five points for the Pride of the Nation. The red-and-black team capitalized on Mogi's mistakes to open up a ten-point lead midway through the quarter. Late in the quarter, the São Paulo team staged a comeback and closed the gap, but the red-and-black team managed to control the game and close it out at 43-39.
The third quarter started fairly evenly, with Mogi evenly equalizing the score. Both teams made numerous mistakes throughout the period, making the duel even more intense in terms of possession. The São Paulo team prevailed, closing the quarter at 60-57.
In the final, decisive quarter, Mengão came back with greater momentum and pushed forward more, but the shots weren't going in. Marquinhos and Deryk, with two three-pointers, put Flamengo back in front. The Flamengo defense was back in control and forced mistakes from Mogi. The game was a close one until the end, but Mogi prevailed, winning 75-74.
Next Friday (22), Mengão faces Pinheiros away from home, at 21:10 pm, at the Henrique Villaboim gym, in São Paulo.
