Flamengo was defeated by Uberlândia 89-81 on Saturday afternoon (07.01) at Tijuca Tênis Clube, and moved up to second place in the overall NBB standings. Flamengo now has nine wins in 11 games (81,8% success rate), but has one game less than the Minas Gerais team, the new leaders, with 10 wins in 12 games (83,3% success rate). Next Thursday (12.01), the Rio de Janeiro team faces Limeira at 18:30 pm in Limeira.

Flamengo's standout performer was center Caio Torres, with 21 points. Uberlândia's Robert Day was the game's top scorer with 29 points.

"Uberlândia has a great team and played a very strong defense, preventing Flamengo from moving the ball into the paint. Furthermore, we made defensive errors at key moments in the match," explained coach Gonzalo Garcia.

Uberlândia took the lead, opening up an 11-5 lead, and Flamengo only managed to turn the game around at the end of the first quarter, with a shot from Caio Torres: 21-20. The Minas Gerais team still managed to tie the game with a free throw: 21-21. In the second quarter, the game was very balanced, with both teams alternating in front, but Uberlândia went into the locker room winning 40-38.

During halftime, the under-21 team, champions of the LDO (Olympic Development League), were honored in the center of the court and received the trophy from the hands of president Patrícia Amorim and the club's vice president of Olympic Sports, Cristina Callou.

Uberlândia opened up a seven-point lead early in the third quarter: 60 x 53, but Flamengo tied it up with two free throws converted by David Jackson: 65 x 65. With five seconds left, Hélio converted a shot and was fouled, leaving Flamengo ahead: 69 x 67, but the Minas Gerais team still managed to tie it up at the end: 69 x 69. The last quarter was also very balanced and Uberlândia took advantage of two errors by Rubro-negro in the final seconds to win by 89 x 81.
