Having won the tournament 43 times, Flamengo has beaten Vasco eight times in the Carioca finals and had not met their rival on the court for nine years. The last time the Rio teams met in a final was in 2007, in a thrilling match at Maracanazinho, in the fight for the State Championship that year. Flamengo didn't disappoint the large Flamengo fans in attendance, defeating Vasco 75-73. In this year's State Championship, the teams have met four times, with each team having two wins and two losses.
Power forward Olivinha, who was the top scorer and a key player in the red-black victory in one of the games against Cruzmaltino in this year's Carioca, stated that Orgulho da Nação is prepared for the challenge.
"We expect it to be a very competitive classic tomorrow. It will be the third game, the final, and the title is at stake. Our team is highly motivated, especially since we'll be playing alongside our fans. It's a Flamengo and Vasco match, and we're going after our twelfth consecutive title. You can be sure we'll do everything we can to lift another trophy tomorrow," said the Flamengo athlete.
