Flamengo tied the best-of-five quarterfinals of the NBB (New Basketball Brazil). Playing at home, the team defeated Bauru, 78-71, on Tuesday night (April 26.04), in the second game of the series, making it 1-1. The next game will be this Wednesday (April 27.04), at 20 pm, at the HSBC Arena. Tickets cost R$30. Students pay half price (R$15). The fourth game will take place on April 29.04, in Bauru, and the fifth, if necessary, will be on May 01.05, in Rio de Janeiro.

With Brazilian basketball star Leandrinho in the audience, Flamengo put on a real show in the first half. Marcelinho broke the deadlock and scored 23 points, finishing as the game's top scorer with 26. Flamengo closed the first quarter 30-12 and went into halftime leading 51-28.

In the second half, Flamengo opened up a 30-point lead in the third quarter (58-28), which ended 73-52. In the final quarter, however, the team relaxed and let Bauru close the gap: 76-71. With 3 seconds remaining, Jeff, from the São Paulo team, was sent off after a hard foul on Duda (the player is out of tomorrow's match). Flamengo ended up winning 78-71.

"We thought the game was over, and the team ended up suffering a blackout. We can't let up; Bauru has had a great tournament so far. The important thing was that we managed to keep our heads on straight, and now we have to focus on the next match," said Marcelinho.

"The most important thing for the next game is to maintain concentration throughout the match, which ended up not happening today," added coach Gonzalo Garcia.

Flamengo started with: Marcelinho (26), Hélio (3), Wagner (-), Teichmann (14) and Teague (13). Entered: Fred (2), Duda (4), Jefferson (9), Átila (7), Guto (2).
