The Gávea team is coming off a victory in the 2009/10 NBB. They defeated São José in the last round, away from home. They currently sit in seventh place, with three wins and two losses. Sixth in the standings, Pinheiros has been bolstered by the signing of American point guard Jemison Brewer, who previously played for the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks. Forward Thomas, who previously played for Rio Claro, is another addition.
