On Friday night (12.12), Flamengo faces São José in the tenth round of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB). José Neto's team will be looking for their sixth victory in the championship, occupying second place in the table, tied with Bauru (both with 71.4% success rate). The match will be at 19:30 pm, at the Lineu de Moura gymnasium, in São José dos Campos.
The teams have already decided the semifinal series of the NBB fifth edition. The Rubro-Negro advanced with a 3-2 score (72-80, 100-84, 106-86, 88-96, and 88-76) to the final against Uberlândia; Flamengo was crowned champion after defeating the Minas Gerais team 77-70. In NBB 6, the Mais Querido won three times, but without meeting São José in the playoffs. In the first round of the qualifying phase, the team from the interior of São Paulo won 81-59; in the second round, the story was different: 94-74 for Flamengo.
After their victory over Mogi das Cruzes, Flamengo hopes to once again rely on José Neto's talented squad to close in on leaders Limeira. São José is right behind Flamengo, in fourth place. "We're expecting a tough, difficult game against a team that's fighting for the same positions as us. At the start of the championship, it's very important to win these head-to-head matches. We're prepared to face a team that's coming off a good win against Macaé, and we need to impose our rhythm to leave here with the victory," said the Flamengo coach.
