Flamengo faces Uberlândia and reopens the Gávea court

On the day the Hélio Maurício gymnasium's court reopens, Flamengo will play a key game in the NBB (New Basketball Brazil). The team faces Uberlândia this Friday (March 25.03th) at 20 pm in Gávea, aiming for the sole lead in the competition. Flamengo is atop the standings, tied with Pinheiros, with 18 wins in 24 games (75% success rate). In the head-to-head, the first tiebreaker, the São Paulo team has the upper hand, having won both matches (first and second leg).
Uberlândia, in turn, is in sixth place with 16 wins in 25 matches (64% success rate) and is fighting for a spot in the G-4. To secure sole leadership, the red-black team needs to win and hope for a defeat for Pinheiros, who this Thursday (24.03) faces Limeira.
In the first round, in Uberlândia, the Rio de Janeiro quintet was defeated 89 x 68.
"Uberlândia is a great team, fighting to stay in the top four, so it will be a key game for Flamengo. They have a very well-balanced game, we have to be careful," said coach Gonzalo Garcia.
Point guard Fred defined the Uberlândia team as "unpredictable".
"They have two very attacking full-backs who can shoot at any time. They also have one of the best playmakers in the country, Valtinho, who I've looked up to a lot," said the red-and-black.
After facing the team from Minas Gerais, Flamengo will still have three more matches in the classification phase: Brasilia, Sunday (27.03), in Tijuca; São José, on 01.04, in São José dos Campos; and Limeira, on 04.03, in Limeira.
"We need to look for victory in these four remaining games, as Pinheiros is alongside us in the lead and our objective is to finish the qualifying phase in first place to have an advantage in the playoffs," said forward/center Jefferson.

Before the match, club president Patrícia Amorim will cut a ribbon, symbolizing the reopening of the court at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium in Gávea. The court has a modern floating floor, as well as new backboards and a scoreboard.
Since 2009, with the adult State Championship, a match had not been played at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium, built in 1990.
"I think the players feel more protected playing at home. It will be very good for all of us," added coach Gonzalo Garcia.
