It wasn't just on the field that Mengão triumphed on Wednesday (31). On the court, the under-22 red-black basketball team achieved its second consecutive victory in the Basketball Development League (LDB), in São Bernardo do Campo-SP. In a very balanced match decided in the last minute - with eight free throws converted -, Rodrigo Silva's team excelled in the fourth quarter and beat Basquete Curitiba 70 to 67. With the result - a second victory in three games -, the boys got very close to qualifying for the competition's Série Ouro.

"We knew today's game would be tough. Basquete Curitiba went to overtime in their first two games, winning one and losing the other, and they're a very well-trained team. Our team is improving. We didn't start well, we played a great game yesterday and the same today. It was a very tight game and I think we remained calm, even though we were behind at times. Our calmness and the free throws at the end were crucial," said the Flamengo coach.

Point guard Humberto was the team's standout performer, with 17 points, four rebounds, three assists, four steals, and a block. 18-year-old center João Vítor scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Forward Lelê also performed well, with ten points and seven rebounds.

This Thursday, all teams in Group A are off and return to the court on Friday (2). Rubro-Negro plays at 20 pm against the home team of São Bernardo.

The youth basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – CSN (Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional), Banco Bonsucesso and Brasil Brokers – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Confederation of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
