Flamengo makes history in national basketball
Rubro-Negro easily beats Joinville 94-67 at home and reaches a record nine wins

The Tijuca Tênis Clube cauldron boiled on Thursday night (January 10th) during the match that put Clube de Regatas do Flamengo at the top of the list of teams with the most consecutive wins at the start of the NBB season. After crushing Joinville 01-94, the Rubro-Negro reached the mark of 67 wins and entered the history of national basketball.
"Today's game was very fast-paced. It meant a lot to me. We made history here with Flamengo. The old record was held by Brasília, with 8 wins, but we broke it, and that's something no one can take away from us now. I'm very happy with our performance on the court," said point guard Kojo after the match.
The fans in the Tijuca gymnasium didn't stop cheering the team on for a minute. There was a lot of applause for the dunks by forward Marquinhos, the game's leading scorer with 23 points, and the string of 3-pointers by shooting guard Duda, the absolute highlight of the second quarter.
The team showed on the court what they have been training daily and the rehearsed plays proposed by coach José Neto proved that Flamengo's squad is increasingly in sync.
"The team performed very well on defense, exploiting counterattacks with great speed and hitting a lot of 3-pointers today. That was our goal, to finish the game with an aggressive defense and another victory at home," celebrates point guard Gegê.
But even with the record-breaking victory and another home win, Flamengo isn't about to rest. The team had barely stepped off the court and was already thinking about the next match.
"We have to forget today's game and focus on Saturday's game so we can continue our work. We made history today, not only for Flamengo, but for the NBB as well, but our goal is to maintain this focus on becoming champions. There's no point in starting well without continuing the work. We'll keep training and dedicating ourselves so this record only grows," Gegê adds.
Flamengo returns to the court next Saturday (12/01) at 18 pm against Limeira, at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gym.
