Flamengo is out of the League of the Americas

Even before playing, Rubro-Negro is already eliminated because of Halcones' victory over Capitanes de Arecibo

Flamengo will take the court in a few minutes, at 23:40 p.m., just to fulfill its schedule in Group 2 of the Basketball League of the Americas. The red-and-black team depended on a result that didn't come in the preliminary match between Halcones Rojos and Capitanes de Arecibo. The team from Gávea was rooting for a victory for the Puerto Ricans, having lost to the Mexicans on Tuesday night, but it was Halcones who prevailed, 92-84, with 30 points from American Lawrence Hill.

Since the competition rules state the primary tiebreaker, the Gávea team can no longer reach Halcones Rojos, even if they win their match against Espartanos de Margarita, the home team, later this year. At most, Mengão would achieve the same two wins as the Mexican team, but would lose their spot in the Final Four based on the head-to-head record. Tuesday night's three-point loss to Halcones, therefore, ended up costing Flamengo more than expected, and Flamengo's dream of an unprecedented qualification for the final four of the Liga das Américas is postponed for at least another year.
