Flamengo is in the final of the LDO (Olympic Development League) – the Brazilian Under-21 Basketball Championship. The team earned its spot with its third consecutive victory in the hexagonal semifinal, which is being played in São Sebastião do Paraíso, Minas Gerais. On Wednesday afternoon (December 21.12), the Rubro-negro defeated Bauru 63-61 and maintained its unbeaten run in the tournament (the team had already finished the first phase undefeated, in first place in Group A).
Already qualified, Flamengo faces Minas, this Thursday (22.12), at 18 pm. Four teams will go through to the final quadrangular, which will be played from December 26 to 29, at Tijuca Tênis Clube, in Rio.
In Wednesday's match, red-and-black star Fred Duarte shone once again. With another double-double (18 points and 16 rebounds), he was the game's top scorer and leading rebounder.
"It was a fantastic victory. We overcame our challenges and achieved this result. The boys deserve it," celebrated coach Paulo Chupeta. "Certainly, in a year or two, many of these boys will be emerging in the NBB," he concluded.
