Flamengo didn't get off to a good start in the tenth edition of the Novo Basquete Brasil. Playing in São Paulo, the "Mais Querido" (the "Most Beloved") was defeated by Paulistano 72-67 (21-15/9-14/26-13/16/25). The match was fought until the final seconds, but the Rubro-Negro was unable to recover on the scoreboard.

Coach José Neto analyzed the negative result in the NBB debut, and cited the lack of consistency in the match.

"Everything went wrong for us today. We were inconsistent, we had good moments even though we weren't leading. We made up a big difference, but we lost our intensity in the third quarter. We were brave in the last period, we played better, but the credit goes to Paulistano, who managed to withstand the pressure," said the coach.

Flamengo's highlights in the match were point guard David Cubillan (14 points and 3 rebounds), Marquinhos (11 points and 4 assists), MJ Rhett (10 points and 4 rebounds) and JP Batista (8 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists).

FlaBasquete will play again in the competition next Thursday (16), at 20:15 pm, against Campo Mourão. The match will be held at the Belin Carolo gym, and Rubro-Negro hopes to return to the path of victory.

The basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo receive funding from their sponsors – Estácio, AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, and EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR) and the State Incentive Law/Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Sports, Recreation, and Youth (Seelje), in addition to support from the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources generated by the Pelé Law. The Anjo da Guarda Rubro-Negro Project, a personal tax transfer, benefits all Olympic sports of the Most Beloved.
