In search of its second championship, Flamengo debuts this Tuesday (04.12) in the final quadrangular of the South American Basketball League. Champion in 2009, the team faces Peñarol, from Argentina, at 21 pm (Brasília time), in Corrientes (ARG). Brasília and Regatas Corrientes are also in the dispute.

The four teams face each other and the best-placed team will be crowned champion. After facing Peñarol, Flamengo plays against Brasília on Wednesday (December 05.12) at 21 pm (Brasília time) and Corrientes on Thursday (December 06.12) at 23:10 pm (Brasília time).

"It's a short tournament, and we're approaching every game as if it were a final. The team is very well prepared, and we have to maintain a strong mentality throughout the games; we can't afford to slip up. I believe we'll have a very tough contest, as all the teams came out very strong. There are no favorites," said coach José Neto.

Peñarol, their opening opponent, defeated Flamengo in the first round in Mar del Plata. On that occasion, the Red-Black team defeated Deporte Castro (CHI) and Hebraica Macabi (URU). In the semifinals in São Paulo, the Rio de Janeiro team had a 100% record, with undisputed victories over Brasília, Pinheiros, and Tiburones de Vargas (VEN).

"I think the four teams in this final are on par. It will depend on who makes the fewest mistakes and is most focused. We lost to Peñarol in the first round and we'll have to study them even more for this first game. But Flamengo is very focused, we had a great semifinal and our expectations are the best possible," said Vitor Benite.

Flamengo will be without captain Marcelinho, who twisted his right knee in the team's NBB debut on the 24th and will have to undergo surgery.
