Flamengo debuts in the South American League against the Uruguayan team
The competition's gymnasium is the same one where the Brazilian team secured an Olympic spot.

One of the season's most important competitions, the South American League, begins this Tuesday (October 23.10) for Flamengo. Flamengo debuts in the first phase against Hebraica (URU) at 20:15 pm (Brasília time) at the Islas Malvinas Sports Center in Mar Del Plata, Argentina. Group C also features Deporte Castro (CHI) and Peñarol (ARG). The two best-placed teams advance to the next phase and secure a spot in the League of the Americas.
Flamengo is seeking its second consecutive title in the competition (it won the title in 2009). In the last edition, the team finished fifth.
"We have a tough challenge ahead of us. Uruguay and Argentina have strong teams that have been playing together for a long time and are champions in their countries. Our first opponent, specifically, is a good team, with players from the Uruguayan national team and two Brazilians. But we prepared well, and the team is improving every day. The trend is for it to continue like this," said coach José Neto.
The gymnasium where the first phase of the League will be played brings back fond memories for the red-and-blacks. It was at the Mar del Plata Sports Center that the Brazilian national team secured a spot in the London Olympics in 2011, after a 16-year absence from the Games. Marcelinho, Marquinhos, Vitor Benite, and Caio Torres were in the group, as were coach José Neto (assistant to Ruben Magnano) and physical trainer Diego Falcão.
"We have great memories here. I hope this place, where the team shone in securing a spot, inspires us to qualify for the second round," said Marcelinho.
"I got goosebumps when I got here. It was an unforgettable achievement. I hope to return to Brazil with more good memories of this arena," said Caio Torres.
After facing Hebraica, the team takes on Deportes Castro, Wednesday (24.10), at 20:15 pm (Brasília time) and Peñarol, Thursday at 22:30 pm (Brasília time). Sportv announces the broadcast.
