Flamengo debuts in the Campeonato Carioca against Niterói away from home
Mais Querido opens the season with a focus on maintaining its 13-year hegemony in Rio de Janeiro.
By Rafael Rezende - inThe Pride of the Nation is ready for its first official competition in the 2019/2020 season. This Saturday (31), Rubro-Negro will face Niterói, at 18:30 pm, at the Instituto Abel Gymnasium, in a game valid for the opening round of the Rio de Janeiro Basketball Championship.
Last year, the teams faced each other four times in the same competition. In all of these matches (two in the qualifying round and two in the semifinals), Flamengo emerged victorious: 100-36, 89-56, 97-38, and 113-55.
Champion in 2018, coach Gustavo de Conti spoke about the training period and highlighted the importance of Carioca:
"A debut is always important. Our team has changed a lot since last season, and we're really eager to play. This first game came at a good time, because we've already had plenty of rest and training. Even with three teams in the competition, we're motivated."
Dispute format
The tournament will be played in a home-and-away format, with teams facing each other at home and away. The top two teams will then advance to the final, which will be played as a best-of-three series. The dates have already been set (September 26th, September 09th, and October 29st).
