Flamengo debuts in the CBI U-18 basketball tournament with a victory
Rubro-Negro da Gávea was superior from start to finish and beat Sport Club do Recife (PE) by 74 to 40
By Raiana Monteiro - inFlamengo's U-18 team debuted with a victory in the Brazilian Interclub Championship (CBI) on Monday afternoon at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gymnasium against Sport Clube Recife (PE). The team led by Rodrigo Galego was superior from start to finish and, without trailing at any point in the match, finished with a score of 74 to 40.
"Today was our debut, and we played well. We have a challenge with this team, because half of them play with the U-17s and the other half with the U-19s. So, this is the first competition they're playing together. Even without using all our players, as we tried to prioritize some players who needed more rhythm, we managed to control the match. This helped me rotate the team. The boys dedicated themselves well and performed according to our plan, despite Sport's mishaps in the second half. The team showed courage and managed to refocus. Now, we're hopeful of improving our fundamentals to advance in the competition," says Rodrigo.
It's worth noting that this CBI U-18 team also includes players Ruan Miranda, Matheus Maciel, and Gabriel Machado on the FlaBasquete adult squad. Coach Rodrigo Galego also serves on the main team as an assistant coach to Gustavo De Conti.
"We started the Copa Brasil Sub-18 a bit anxious, but thank God we managed to come away with the victory. The next step is tomorrow," celebrates Matheus Maciel, who finished the match with 20 points.
Luiz Henrique (12 points), Matheus Maciel (11 points), Matheus Alves (11 points) and Gabriel Machado (10 points) were the highest scorers of the match.
"I think we played well, but it wasn't how we wanted it to be. We're looking to improve, and with each game, we're getting better. Unfortunately, we don't have all our players available due to the rotation, but our expectations for the championship are high," Gabriel concluded.
Mais Querido's next commitment in the competition is this Tuesday (20), at 9:45 am at the Tijuca Tênis Clube gym, against ASBAVI/SICOOBCREDISUL (RO).
