On Saturday night (01.02), at Tijuca Tênis Clube, the Nation witnessed Flamengo's first defeat in 2014. The Rubro-Negro had nine consecutive victories in the year, but was beaten, in the 22nd round of the sixth edition of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), by Pinheiros by 80 to 71. For Mais Querido, the one who shone the most was Marcelinho, top scorer of the match, with 19 points. Despite the result, Fla remains leader of the competition.

"The match showed how tough this championship is. It's difficult to come off a run like ours. Pinheiros is coming off a trip, but they rested for a few days and managed to recover players. We weren't playing well offensively and we need to improve a few things to play more freely. But we already expected it to be a tough game. Now, we have to focus on Minas (their next opponent) so we can come away with a win in the next match," said coach José Neto.

Despite the loss, several Flamengo players posted strong individual performances, including leading scorer Marcelinho. Meyinsse converted 11 of his 14 points. Gegê led the night in assists with six. Laprovittola scored 15 points, and Olivinha was, for the second consecutive game, just one rebound away from another double-double.

In the next round, Flamengo will play its fourth consecutive match at Tijuca Tênis Clube. The game, against Minas, will be held on Monday (03.02) and will start at 20 pm.
