Flamengo claims another victim in the State Basketball Championship
The team defeated Riachuelo 114-56. The next challenge will be against Macaé, away from home.

Flamengo secured another victory in the State Basketball Championship. On Monday night (September 27.09), the team defeated Riachuelo 114-56 at the Municipal Club gymnasium. It was the team's second victory in the competition. In their debut, the team crushed Iguaçu 142-52. Their next challenge will be against Macaé on Wednesday (September 29.09) at their opponent's home ground.
Point guard Marcelinho led the way with 34 points. Flamengo was still without American Kyle Lamonte, who is recovering from a sprained right ankle, and center Átila, who is awaiting registration. Thus, the team took to the court with Hélio, Duda, Macelinho, Teichmann, and Bábby.
With its stars, Flamengo faced no difficulties in the first half. They quickly took a 17-point lead (22-5) and closed the first quarter at 33-10. In the second quarter, coach Paulo Chupeta tested a different formation, with Fred, Guto, Jefferson, and Wagner, in addition to Duda, who started the match. Although Riachuelo showed a little more resistance, Flamengo continued to dominate the match and went into halftime leading 59-26.
In the second half, Chupeta continued to make changes to the team, and newcomer Marcelão, from the youth team and the only one who hadn't yet entered the court, also had his chance. Flamengo was never threatened, closing the third quarter with a 48-point lead (88-40) and the game at 114-56.
"Riachuelo has a more organized team than Iguaçu. Some of the players were my players in the youth academy. I took the opportunity to test different formations and organize the defense," said coach Paulo Chupeta.
